Event Overview
- Origin: A huge shoutout to Jeff and Jeremy from The Ultra Running Guys. They organized 'The Final Countdown' in NC for 4 years.
- Concept: This fun and challenging race is being brought to WV with permission to "steal" the idea!
- Inclusivity: You are invited to this unique race experience that caters to everyone from new runners to experienced ultra runners.
- Challenge: As the race progresses, you must hold off your own "Final Countdown" as long as possible.
Course Details
- Loop Length: The course is a 1.33 mile loop located on the property of Amani Brewery.
- Trail Condition: The grass path is taken care of and mowed all year round, providing a smooth, fast trail.
- Lap Timing: Every lap, all runners leave together and must complete the loop in the allotted time.
- Breaks: If you finish the loop before the Countdown completes, you can take a break, grab a drink, or check social media.
Countdown Mechanics
- Lap Speed: Each lap will get slightly faster than the last, starting with the first lap at 20 minutes (15:02/mile pace).
- Time Reduction: For each successive lap, the countdown will be 20 seconds shorter, pushing you to go faster.
- Race Conclusion: If you don't return before the Countdown reaches "0", your adventure is over.
- Final Competitor: The race ends when only one runner returns before the completion of "The Final Countdown".
Preparation and Strategy
- Fueling Strategy: To get the most out of yourself, plan to be conservative enough to ensure you have fuel left toward the end.
- Physical Preparation: Be ready to push your limits as the race progresses.
- Goal Setting: Set personal goals to keep you motivated throughout the event.
- Community Support: Hang out and cheer on the remaining competitors after your race ends.
