🎉 Event Overview
First launched in April 2010, the Sisters Network Inc. Stop the Silence National African American Breast Cancer 5K Walk/Run is the first and only national breast cancer walk hosted by a black-led organization for black women. The walk is hosted in April to draw attention to National Minority Health Awareness month.
👥 Participation Highlights
- History: Over the last 15 years, more than 4,000 participants from around the United States travel to Houston, Texas annually.
- Purpose: Honor and celebrate black women diagnosed with breast cancer.
- Funding: A portion of the funds raised from the Stop the Silence walk benefits Sisters Network Inc. Karen E. Jackson Breast Cancer Assistance Program (BCAP).
- Support: The national program pays for 3D mammograms for uninsured women and provides financial assistance to breast cancer survivors who are currently in treatment.
