🐉 About the Chupacabra

Chupacabra, in Latin American popular legend, a monstrous creature that attacks animals and consumes their blood. The name is derived from the Spanish words chupar (“to suck”) and cabra (“goat”) and can be translated as “goat-sucker.” As a fearsome but probably nonexistent creature, the chupacabra has been characterized as the southern equivalent of the Sasquatch.

This endurance event just might “chupar” the life of you. Please join us if you dare!

📝 Race Rules

• Loop Information: We will start the clock every hour, you have one hour to finish that loop. The loop is 4.1-4.2 miles and is a mixture of pavement and single-track trails. If you don’t finish the loop in one hour you are OUSTED from the race!
• Determining Winners: Save your strength as we determine winners by who runs the final loop the fastest.
• Pacers: NO PACERS
• Pacer Rule: No human or animal pacers allowed. Violating this rule results in a DQ.

🛠️ Start/Finish Area

There is room for you to set up your own crew station at the shelter. Gatorade and water will be provided.

💰 MONEY!!!

For every person that signs up $5 will be added to the pot.

• Prize Distribution: The overall male and female that complete the final loop will split the pot IF a woman is first overall finisher, she receives all the money.
• Carried Over: If no one completes the last loop the pot will carry over to next year.

🎖️ Prizes

Once you complete a loop you receive a colored poker chip:

• Black Chip: Complete 1, 2 or 3 loops receive a black chip for each loop completed.
• Red Chip: Complete 4, 5, or 6 loops receive a red chip for each loop completed.
• Blue Chip: Complete 7, 8, or 9 loops receive a blue chip for each loop completed.
• Prize Tables: You can use those chips to turn into the prize tables. Each table will have a tablecloth corresponding with the color of the poker chip.

🦕 Cryptozoology Series

This race is part of the Cryptozoology series which includes the Yeti Trail Half in February and the Bigfoot Trail Half in November.

• Completion Requirement: If you are able to complete three loops at the Chupacabra and complete the Yeti and the Bigfoot, you will be eligible for a raffle for a $100 Amazon gift card.
• Raffle Timing: The raffle will take place at the Bigfoot in November.

🔍 What is Cryptozoology?

A pseudoscience and subculture that searches for and studies unknown, legendary, or extinct animals whose present existence is disputed or unsubstantiated, particularly those popular in folklore, such as Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, Yeti, the chupacabra, the Jersey Devil, or the Mokele-mbembe.
