We are delighted to announce the return of our Twins Tot 5k Run/Walk event this year! Please join us at Gilchrist Park on March 2, 2024 for the Twins Tot 5k Walk/Run! In our commitment to participant safety, we have secured a dedicated lane on HWY 41, ensuring a secure pathway for both runners and walkers over the bridge. The route guides participants from Gilchrist Park over the US 41 Bridge and through Punta Gorda's Harbor Walk.
THIS RACE IS DOG AND STROLLER FRIENDLY!!!!
For those seeking an alternative route, a walk-only option is available post-race at 9am, serving as a vigil to those tragically lost to drowning.
Your participation, whether in the walk or race, or through a donation, supports the mission of Just Against Children Drowning. All proceeds from the event contribute to the provision of free swimming lessons for children and the implementation of essential drowning prevention tools.
The Run/Walk is a professionally chip timed event. The Vigil Walk only is not timed.
There are virtual options for both events. Virtual 5k Run participants will receive their medal and shirt by mail. Virtual Walk only participants will receive their shirt by mail.
JACD, a 501 (C)(3) non-profit foundation, was incorporated on April 1, 2010, after the tragic drowning of 13-month-old twins Joshua and Christian DeMello. Our hope is that through spreading awareness and being able to financially help when needed, we can prevent similar events from happening. At JACD, we strongly believe and recommend that every home with a pool needs to have a child barrier (even if you donโt have children yourself), along with proper supervision at all times. We also promote swimming lessons and CPR.
Surprisingly, 58% of parents report that they donโt consider drowning a risk to their children, yet statistics show that a swimming pool is 14 times more likely to be involved in the death of a child, aged 1 โ 4 years old, than a motor vehicle. In fact, while most parents worry about things like a hot stove, iron, sharp objects, a fall from tall surfaces, perhaps animals, or even a loaded gun in the house, the most dangerous thing is something that is always around us in some way: water. And the worst part is that we donโt tend to think much about this. Whether it be the toilet, sink, pool, bathtub, a puddle outside, a pot or pan, there is a constant need to protect your child from becoming a victim. It could save a life!
