🌟 Event Overview

💔 Background Story

• Diagnosis: In October 2021, 5 year old Gavin Blount was diagnosed with brain cancer. Only 3 months later, in January 2022, his 3 year old little brother Bryson was diagnosed with ALL Leukemia.
• Condition: Both Gavin and Bryson were diagnosed with CMMRD, or Constitutional Mismatch Repair Deficiency, which makes both boys predisposed to developing aggressive cancers.
• Treatment: Treatment began immediately for both boys.
• Rapid Progression: Unfortunately, due to the boys having CMMRD, the cancers in each of the boys grew too rapidly despite their aggressive treatments.

😢 Tragic Loss

• Gavin's Passing: Sadly, on February 18, 2023, Gavin passed away at the age of 6.
• Bryson's Passing: Only 10 months later, on December 19, 2023, Bryson passed away at the age of 5.
• Medical Burden: Months of treatments, hospital stays, surgeries, tests, etc for both boys have led to HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS in medical bills for The Blounts.
• Family Struggles: The family has lost both boys and still has the burden of excessive medical bills.

💖 Event Mission

It is the mission of The Gavin and Bryson Blount Memorial 5K to raise money to provide financial assistance to the Blount Family, as well as bring awareness to CMMRD and childhood cancer.
