🏃‍♂️ History of the Torch Run

• Origin: The Law Enforcement Torch Run® for Special Olympics began in 1981 in Kansas when Wichita Police Chief Richard LaMunyon saw an urgent need to raise funds and increase awareness for Special Olympics.
• Community Involvement: Chief LaMunyon created the Torch Run as a way to involve his officers in the community by running a torch relay for their local Special Olympics.
• Growth: More than 40 years later, 97,000+ law enforcement officers from around the world are involved.
• Fundraising Success: Have raised more than $1 billion to support community-based sport programs for people with intellectual disabilities!
