🏃♂️ Event Overview
Michael W Leibowitz was always on the move. A fixture in the Charleston running community, he once participated in more than 70 races in a single year! Michael traveled across the globe for a good cause, bringing family and friends with him whenever they obliged. His motto, which he routinely shared accompanied by a photo on every trek, was “If I can do it, so can you.”
💔 In Memory of Michael
Michael was tragically killed at age 71, along with his friend Christina Chung, in an accident in July 2024. His grandchildren, children, family, and friends wish to honor his memory with this event. Why 5.12 K? In honor of Michael’s birthday, May 12 - and because he revered being a little different with measurements.
- Proceeds: All proceeds from this memorial event will be donated to the Michael W Leibowitz Fund, to support the charitable causes closest to his heart.
- Inspiration: Through these efforts, Michael’s generous spirit and dedication to helping others will continue to inspire and uplift those in need.

👟 Race Details
This event is open to people of all levels of athletic ability. The race will not be timed: we want everyone to come out to remember Michael.
- Participant Perks: All participants will receive a shirt, functional swag, and a useful finisher's medallion.
- Refreshments: Refreshments will be available.
- Children's Dash: 8:30 am
- 5.12 Walk/Run: 9:05 am
📍 Race Day Information
Bib/T-Shirt/Swag: Pickup Day of Race: 8:00 am at The Visitor's Center.
- T-Shirt Size: T-Shirts are unisex sizing.
- Finisher's Medallion: Unique finishers medallions that can be used as a bag tag will be provided at the finish line to all participants.
