13th Annual Surfin' Turkey 5K and Puppy Drum Fun Run

🏃‍♂️ Event Overview

Join us to raise money for Hatteras Island students! Run this beautiful 5K course through the historic fishing village before your big Thanksgiving feast! A fun pancake breakfast immediately follows the race along with the awards ceremony. The proceeds from this race support the Hatteras Island Youth Education Fund (HIYEF). During the 2023-2024 school year, HIYEF provided more than $60,000 in grant funded projects to our two Cape Hatteras Schools. HIYEF provides funding for educational and enrichment opportunities for our Hatteras Island students.

💧 Course Details

• Water Station: There is one water station on the course.
• Timing: This is not a timed race: it is a family fun event: if you want to know your time please wear a watch or make sure you look at the clock at the finish line.
• Course Layout: The course will be an out-and-back route due to the replacement of the Slash Creek Bridge.
• Course Marking: The course will be well marked as always.

📅 Registration Details

Surfin' Turkey 5k Pricing:

• On and after 11/1/2024: Individual: $40.00 (+$3.00 sign up fee)
• T-shirts: After November 10th, T-shirts are NOT GUARANTEED.
• On-site Registration: $45. We are PAPERLESS - QR code sign-ups available.
• Puppy Drum Fun Run: Children 12 and under can participate for free, but no T-shirt.

🏢 Packet Pick-Up

On-site registration will be available during Packet Pickup at the Hatteras Village Civic Center on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 from 4 pm to 6 pm and on the morning of the race between 7 am and 7:30 am. Packets may be picked up either Wednesday evening or Thursday morning before the race.

🅿️ Parking Information

There will be limited race day parking on site. Additional on-street parking available nearby.

☔ Weather and Refund Policy

• Event Nature: Non-refundable charity event.
• Weather: Race is rain or shine but will be canceled for safety reasons in the event of severe weather.
• Transfers: There will be no refunds or transfers.
• Participant Guidelines: Slower runners and walkers should start at the back of the corral.

🏆 Recognition and Awards

• Awards: The top three males, females, and children under 16 will receive special recognition.
• Family Fun: This is a family fun event: if you want to know your time, wear a watch.
• Participant Info: Strollers are welcome, but begin at the back of the crowd for safety purposes.
• Course Restrictions: Bikes, e-bikes, scooters, or skates are not permitted on the race course.
