- Event: The Petit Family 5k Road Race
- Origin: Initiated in early 2008 by Robert and Gary Heslin, classmates of Dr. William A. Petit, Jr.
- History: The trio ran cross-country and track & field together at Plainville High School, class of 1974.
- Purpose: To honor the legacy of Dr. Petit's wife and daughters.

- Course: A USATF-certified 5k, point-to-point course.
- Additional Event: A 1.3mi Fitness Walk is also available.

- Scope: Grants support programs and projects throughout Connecticut and the American Northeast.
- Nationwide Reach: Projects supported across all corners of the United States.
- Goal: To do good things for others in the spirit of Dr. Petit’s request.
