📅 Important Announcement!

We have made the difficult, yet necessary, decision to not offer the Paseo de Mariposa race in the year 2025. We understand this is a cherished race and are sad that this will be disappointing for our community and those of you who travel for this wonderful event. We are hopeful that this is not the end of the Paseo and it will return in the future! Continue to check the website, Instagram and Facebook for updates. 🌲 Catch the Bug!

• Location: Located in the Sierra Nevada foothills, home to Yosemite National Park, Mariposa is rich in history and natural beauty.
• Event Details: The seventh annual Paseo de Mariposa, is a 5K, 8(ish)K and 12K Trail Run held within Mariposa County.
• Start Point: The race starts on the grounds of the Mariposa Courthouse, the oldest courthouse (c.1851) west of the Rockies that is still in use.
• Mission: This event promotes health and overall wellness, engaging children in active lifestyles.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Family-Friendly Event

• Participation: All children under the age of 18 years are eligible to participate in each event at no cost.
• Inclusivity: The Paseo de Mariposa is a family-friendly trail running event that children and adults of all ages can enjoy.
• Considerations: If you’re new to trail running or running in general, there are a few things to consider before signing up.
• Safety: Aid stations will be spread across each distance, and Mariposa county search and rescue team members will be on hand for runner support.

🏃‍♀️ Race Routes

The three different distances each have varying levels of difficulty, and we definitely recommend that you consider your athletic ability and experience before race day.

5K Route

• Family-Friendly: The shortest and most beginner-friendly route starts at the courthouse.
• Terrain: Includes paved roads and a climb to the high school baseball field, leading to a dirt fire road.
• Turnaround: Runners will travel on a dirt fire road (2 people wide) before heading back to the finish line at the courthouse.

8-ish K Route

• Continuation: Follows the 5K route and continues past the reservoir.
• Climb: Features a steep rocky climb before reaching the reservoir and a turnaround point by the kiosk near Hwy 140.
• Returning: The return trip follows the same course as the 5K with a quick lap around the courthouse before finishing.

12K Route

• Challenge: The longest and most challenging route includes a steep downhill section with tripping hazards.
• Single Track: Features a long single track climb up to the reservoir and Slaughterhouse Road.
• Final Segment: The last part is a single track along the upper trail, providing elevation gain and stunning views.
• Restrictions: No strollers are permitted for the 12K race, and youth under 13 must be accompanied by an adult.

⚠️ Safety Precautions

With all outdoor activities, there are always risks for slips, trips, and falls. We strongly recommend either running or hiking your selected route before the day of the event. It's always a good idea to take a buddy with you because nature is more fun with your friends!
