The Michael Henter Foundation’s inaugural “Miles for Michael 5K” is a meaningful, non-profit event dedicated to raising awareness of aortic disease and Marfan Syndrome while providing support to those affected. All proceeds from this event will go directly to the Michael Henter Foundation, whose mission is to raise awareness for Marfan Syndrome and drive positive change through compassion, advocacy, education, and progress. Inspired by Michael Henter himself, our goal is to make a lasting impact and save lives.
Michael, a devoted Pi Sigma Epsilon (PSE) member, tragically passed away in 2023, but his legacy of leadership, kindness, and dedication continues to inspire us. This first-ever 5K will bring together runners, walkers, and supporters to celebrate Michael’s memory and make a difference in the lives of others.
The course is designed with a repeated loop format, indicated by yellow arrows. Runners will start at the University of Northern Iowa's Campanile, a landmark in the heart of campus, before embarking on a scenic route through the university grounds. Shortly after the start, participants will enter the loop, completing it twice in full. On the third time around, instead of continuing the loop, they will take a left turn by Rod Library to head toward the finish line. This course layout provides a structured and engaging experience, allowing participants to take in the beauty of campus while running for a meaningful cause.
To ensure the success of this event, we are seeking sponsors who share our vision and want to be part of something impactful. Sponsors will gain valuable exposure while directly contributing to life-saving initiatives, helping us create a memorable event that will grow and inspire for years to come.
