🌳 Race Details

Welcome spring with this scenic, non-chipped trail run/walk through the beautiful apple orchards of Robinette’s in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The Nathan Syrek Memorial 5K honors the legacy of Nathan Syrek, who passed into heaven at the age of 19 after a courageous battle with cancer. This annual charity event celebrates Nathan’s spirit of kindness and faith while raising funds to support a local family with a child facing significant challenges.

👨‍👩‍👧 Beneficiary Family

This year, we are honored to support Millie Jolene and her family. 

• Background: Millie Jolene was born in September 2017 with a rare genetic disorder called MFDM, affecting her heart, brain, bones, spine, and organs.
• Medical Needs: One of her most critical conditions was a failure of her esophagus to develop and connect properly, requiring extensive surgeries.
• Current Status: Despite complications requiring additional surgeries, Millie continues to undergo treatment at Boston and Cincinnati Children’s Hospitals.
• Resilience: Now seven years old, she has endured more than 25 surgeries and exemplifies resilience in every way.

This inclusive 5K (or 1 mile walk) is perfect for runners and walkers of all ages and abilities—you can run, walk, or even opt for a shorter version if you prefer. It’s not about the finish time: it’s about coming together for a meaningful cause.

🌿 Race Tips

Note: The 5K route winds through the orchard with varied terrain that may be soft or muddy—after all, it’s spring in Michigan! For those with strollers or wagons, we recommend the 1-mile walk, which follows a firmer, established path for a smoother experience.
