Nise’s Race was created in loving memory of my mom, Catherine Denise Thompson, affectionately known to many as “Nise.” On October 13, 2018, after a courageous 5-year battle with cervical cancer, she passed away.

What I want everyone to know about cervical cancer is this: It Is Preventable.
- Regular check-ups: Essential for early detection.
- Health screenings: Important for monitoring health status.
- HPV vaccine: A vital tool for prevention.
- Awareness: Empowering women to take charge of their health.
👩👧👧 About My Mom
What’s important to know about my mom is that she was a people person through and through—a true “hugger” who radiated warmth. She loved working with children and spent her career as a paraprofessional at Scoggins Middle School and Dallas Elementary School. She was also a devoted wife to Army veteran Larry Thompson, with whom she shared 36 years of marriage, honoring their vows “until death do us part.” She passed away at the age of 56, leaving behind three daughters and two grandsons.
