Scranton Half Marathon

🏃‍♂️ Race Overview

The 12th edition of the Scranton Half Marathon will take place on Sunday, April 6, 2025, beginning and ending at PenFed Credit Union Field at Memorial Stadium. The goal of the race is to provide a superior event highlighting the local area and in doing so, bring increased exposure and revenue for local businesses.

⏰ Race Start Times

• Half Marathon Run: 8:00 AM
• Half Marathon Walk: 6:45 AM

🎉 New for 2025 - Run/Walk Category

We're pleased to offer a new run/walk category for the half marathon. Please select this option when registering if you plan on doing a combination of both running and walking on the course. As a run/walker, you will start at 8 AM with the run and will be timed as a runner. If you will be only walking the course, please select the Half Marathon Walk tab when registering. Run/walkers will also be held to the Elm Street cutoff time below.

🏁 Elm Street Cutoff Time

In the interest of safety and to allow city streets to reopen as scheduled, the race course will remain open to all participants who reach the Elm Street trailhead of the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail (roughly 7.5 miles) by 10:15 AM. This would be an 18:00 minute per mile pace for runners and a 28:00 minute per mile pace for walkers. Those participants who are unable to meet the 10:15 AM cutoff time will be directed to turn right onto the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail and will not be able to complete the full 13.1 mile course and their finish time will not be recorded.

⏳ 5k Run Cutoff Time

In the interest of safety and to allow city streets to reopen as scheduled, there will be a 50 minute cutoff time for all participants in the 5k. This would be a 16 minute per mile pace. If you are unable to finish the race in this timeframe, your time will not be recorded.

🌍 Virtual Half Marathon

• Distance: Run or walk the half marathon distance wherever you'd like between April 3 and April 6, 2025.
• Results: Submit your time to scrantonhalfresults@gmail.com to be included in the virtual results.
• Cost: $55 which includes bib, finisher shirt, medal, and finisher gift.
• Swag Pickup: During expo hours on Friday, April 4 from 5 to 8 PM or Saturday, April 5 from 11 AM to 5 PM. If you live outside of the NEPA area, your race swag will be mailed to you during the week of April 7, 2025.
• Eligibility: Virtual race participants are not eligible for any age group awards or cash prizes.
• Note: If you register for the virtual run or walk, you are unable to transfer your registration to the in-person event.

🚶‍♂️ Half Marathon Walk

• Start Time: Begins at 6:45 AM.
• Timing: Fully chip timed.
• Finisher's Reward: Finishers receive Half Marathon Medal and Finisher's Gift.
• Awards: Awards to the Overall Male and Overall Female finishers.
• Course Note: This is a walk only, and participants are not permitted to engage in running during the event if registered for the walk.
• Safety: Walkers must stay on the sidewalks until the lead police vehicle comes by at which point the course will be fully secure. Due to course safety restrictions, the Doherty Double is not walk friendly.

👶 Kid's Fun Run!

Participants will receive a bib and finisher medal. The 1/4 mile runs will start at approximately 8:15 AM on race morning. The 1/2 mile runs will follow the conclusion of the 1/4 mile runs. Please note that all participants must be off of the infield by 9 AM to ensure the safety of participants from the kids fun runs as well as the half marathon.

• Run 1 - Ages 5 - 6
• Run 2 - Ages 7 - 8

1/2 Mile Fun Runs

• Run 1 - Ages 9 - 10
• Run 2 - Ages 11 - 12

💖 Charitable Giving

The Scranton Half Marathon has given over $450,000 in its first eleven years to the Lackawanna Heritage Valley Authority for the beautification and safety of the city of Scranton.
