Sunset Bay Trail Runs

🏞️ Race Overview

Hilly, scenic trail run along the scenic Oregon Coast. Sunset Bay Trail Runs feature very challenging courses, especially for the longer distances and the views will take what breath you have left away. Seriously, this race has it all, killer hills through the woods, and an amazing flat cliff section where you'll see sea lions, rocks, the deep blue sea, and if you're very lucky, a passing whale. This is an amazing, not to be missed course.

📍 Event Details

• Date: August 23, 2025
• Location: Sunset Bay State Park, Coos Bay, OR
• Packet Pickup: Race morning only at the gazebo on far south end of Sunset Bay.
• Start Time: Please arrive at least 1/2 hour before your race start time.

⏰ Race Timing

All runners must finish by 1:00 PM. This hasn't been a problem in the past, but it has been close. This year we are offering an 8:30 AM early start for half-marathoners who would like more time to finish. Note that the aid stations will not be manned until sometime after 9:30 (it's already a long day for the high-school kids). If you opt to start early, the first open aid station will likely be around mile 8. Make sure to carry enough nutrition and hydration for that distance.

💧 Aid Stations and Nutrition

• Refreshments: Water and Gatorade at the start/finish line and plenty of snacks at the finish.
• Aid Station Supplies: One aid station for the 15K and 1/2 marathon with water, gels, and other snacks.
• Cycle of Aid: The 15K will pass the aid station twice and the 1/2 marathon will pass it 3 times.
• Sustainability Practice: Runners are encouraged to carry a bottle to reduce waste and no littering on course.

🚻 Facilities and Safety

• Restrooms: Available at 4 miles for the 15K and 1/2 Marathon participants.
• Course Traffic: The course isn’t on the road very much, but be alert as it is open to traffic.
• Safety Regulations: No headphones, rollerblades, skateboards, bicycles, animals, or jogging strollers allowed during the race.
• Cell Service: Please note that there is no cell service at Sunset Bay.

👕 Race Registration Details

We do not include T-shirts in the basic race entry in an effort to keep costs down (come on, this is the cheapest race you've entered since the 80's, right?) and because we know many of you already have a closet full of race T-shirts. BUT, this is a truly awesome race, and you may want a quality, moisture-wicking T-shirt to subtly brag that you did it. So we have that option too.

🎖️ Awards and Contributions

• Proceeds: Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Marshfield High School Track and Cross Country Team.
• Awards: Ribbons to top three winners overall and in each age group.
