Saltillo Donut Dash 5K

🍩 Event Overview

The Saltillo Jr. Women’s Club (SJWC) is planning to host our second annual Donut Dash in Saltillo, Mississippi, on Saturday, April 19th, 2025. This run is a major fundraiser for the Saltillo Jr Women’s Clubs Blessing Bags and Shining Stars programs.

🎒 Blessing Bags Program

• Mission: A backpack program in which we supply children in need within the Saltillo/Guntown schools with food items for the weekends while they are not in school.
• Contents: We pack the bags with breakfast, lunch, and snack options. All food selections are non-perishable and “kid friendly”, so that they can be prepared and eaten without adult supervision.
• Impact: We currently provide 78 children with Blessing Bags weekly, and we anticipate that this number will fluctuate due to inflation and changes in the economy.
• Cost: The total monthly cost of running the Blessing Bags program is roughly $1,650 or approximately $21 per child.

🎄 Shining Stars Program

• Purpose: Organizes assistance for Saltillo/Guntown students at Christmas time.
• Contents: We provide 3 shirts, 3 pairs of pants, 1 jacket/hoodie, underwear, socks, a pair of shoes, and a toiletry bag to each child.
• Wishlist Items: Each child also receives “wishlist item(s)” that we budget at $50 for a toy or other special item.
• Sponsor Cost: We ask sponsors to agree to spend $200 to cover the costs of an entire star: however, realistically, the cost has risen above this amount.

🤝 Program Administration

• Identification: Students are identified by teachers and counselors to preserve anonymity within the club.
• Family Approval: Counselors are able to get family approval before we provide help.
• Future Goals: We hope to see the Donut Dash grow in popularity to completely support both programs.
• Expansion: Our aim is to expand assistance year-round for food and clothing needs in our community.
